A student's life involves doing so many activities attending classes, doing assignments, attending seminars, sports sessions, extra-curricular activities, projects, exam preparation, and so much more. In such a hectic schedule, they don't get any time for themselves and to meet friends often. This can lead to stress. Common symptoms of stress are headaches, fatigue, negative thoughts, eating too much, crying spells, getting angry on small things, and not being able to concentrate on studies. This article discusses certain measures that can help students deal with stress effectively.

  • Organize your time: It is very important to organize your tasks during the day. Make a time-table and allocate suitable time for studies, play, recreational activities, prayers, etc. Make a realistic time-table and then try your best to follow it.

  • Think positively: Don’t let negative thoughts come to your mind. Negative thoughts won’t do any good rather they can convert stress into pressure. Even if negative thoughts come to your mind often, try hard to think positively.

  • Make yourself emotionally strong: Read inspirational books and you will realize that the moment you are positive and motivated all stress that you are feeling will vanish. Gradually you will start feeling much better. It is a good idea to put up some inspirational posters in your room or cupboard. You can also use inspirational bookmarks to help you keep motivated.

  • Discuss with teachers and peers: Never keep troubles within your heart. This will make you feel suffocated and will multiply the stress. Your friends and teachers can guide you to work towards doing away with stress and reduce stress level. Identify people you can trust and speak out.

  • Eating habits: Never skip meals, no matter how stressed you are feeling as it can worsen the situation. It has been observed that by eating on time you can help yourself reduce stress.

  • Learn from your mistakes: It is always better to learn from past mistakes. Repeating them will make you all the more stressed. For example, if you haven’t followed a schedule in the past, make sure you have one now.

  • Relax: It is very important to get enough time for sleep and rest to reduce stress. Never overwork yourself and make sure that you sleep at least 6-8 hours. After classes, also keep some time for rest and relaxation.

  • Do some physical activity: Involve yourself in any kind of physical activity whether it is sports or exercise. This will surely help you feel positive.

  • Go for counseling: If you feel the need to discuss your problems with a counselor, go ahead. Make sure you are honest while discussing your problems so that a suitable solution can be worked out. Most boarding schools have counselors available on campus to help students.
